The Best Fashion Advice Ever Given

When it comes to fashion, find out what works for you and stick with it.
A wise friend once told me, “Don't wear what fashion designers tell you to wear. Wear what they wear. His point being that most designers, no matter they throw onto the runway, favor simple flattering pieces for themselves.
Anyone one who has never met me can tell you that fashion has always been very very very very very very very very important to me. For example, I once told my cousin, “If the whole store Express was my closet!” How prescient, because now of course, I wear nothing but Express.
It can't be said enough. Don't concern yourself with fashion; stick to simple pieces that flatter your body type.
By nineteen, I had found my look. Oversized t-shirts, bike shorts and wrestling shoes. To prevent the silhouette from being too baggy I would cinch it at the waist with my fanny pack. I was pretty sure that I would wear this look forever. The shirts allowed me to express myself with cool sayings like “There is no crying in baseball” and “Universtitรคt Heidelberg,” the bike short showed off my muscular legs, and the fanny pack held all my trolly tokens. I was nailing it on a daily basis. Find something like this for yourself as soon as possible.

Good news, bad news

The good news is, we are getting a lot of beautiful new fabrics!
The bad news is, you will have to wait until we open our new store to see it.
So if any of you are curious as to why I'm not posting new fabric photos on the blog, it is not because we don't have new fabric, it is because the new shop won't open until May 29th. We can't wait to show you all the beautiful new things!

It is a blue building just down the road from our current location. It used to be the Robin's Nest and I take it as a good omen that one bird has left and another is coming.

I am thinking about renting a bigger space for Yellow Bird Fabrics. Any thoughts?

The Lace Tank: Part 2

This is the Marc Jacobs lace tank that I wanted to replicate.
 Here is my version.
I put a cute little key whole in the back.
Here are some fabulous dresses made from the same cotton crocheted lace. This first dress is made by our very own Leena. I love the bias strip finishes along the neckline, sleeves, and princess seams. Nice work Leena!
This dress was made by one of our great customers. The silk chiffon detailing on the hem of the sleeve is fun and creative. Well done Chris!

Fashion Remix

Just a heads up, Fashion Remix is tomorrow. Fashion Remix is a fashion show, where interior designers are challenged to create an outfit out of vendors products they get paired up with. This could be an ensemble out of carpet, tile, wallcovering, laminate, you name it. The possibilities are endless. For more information, visit http://fashionremixslc.wordpress.com/

The Lace Tank

I really like this Marc Jacobs lace tank, but...Problem 1: It is listed at $228 in this Nordstrom's catalog.
Problem 2: I think I would prefer a little sleeve.
Solution: Make my own.
I'll let you know how it goes.We currently have this fabric at Yellow Bird Fabrics. There is not much left so hurry in if you want to make a lace tank for yourself.
